Shortly after Jason's funeral, our brother Richard decided to enlist in the Army. Though some of us were worried, naturally, Richard was not to be dissuaded. Richard enlisted in the US Army Reserve as an engineer, and left West Virginia on January 29, 2008, for Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, to become a heavy equipment operator for the Army.
We got news by mail and occasional phone call, and Richard was doing well. He graduated basic training in April, and was surrounded by family.

Immediately after completing basic, Richard began AIT (Advanced Individual Training) and was excelling. The weekend before his AIT graduation, my wife and I were fortunate enough to be able to visit him and take him to dinner. I made sure to tell Baby Brother how proud I am of him.
Richard returned home two weeks later, and was married on July 5, 2008, at Cascara church.
Richard--you proved us all right...you are beyond even Army Strong!
